Our Aims
Newman College Aspirational Visit Lindsworth GCSE PE pupils visited Birmingham Newman University, gaining valuable exposure to university life and sports studies. The highlight was the newly developed human performance hub, where they took part in professional-grade fitness tests that reinforced their recent classroom learning on components of fitness. They explored key facilities, including the library and sports therapy department, while engaging in meaningful discussions with students and staff about university life and career pathways. The pupils’ enthusiasm, curiosity, and impeccable behaviour made the visit a resounding success, leaving them inspired and motivated about their future academic and sporting ambitions.

Big Bang Science Fair A number of pupils from years 7 to 10 attended the Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair at the NEC in June. They were able to participate in hands on workshops, meet employers and watch exciting live shows. Career pathways highlighted by the event included design and innovation, energy and transport, environment and sustainability, health and wellbeing; and technology and AI.

Ask Apprenticeships During the summer term Ask Apprenticeships came in to school to help improve our pupil’s awareness of apprenticeships. They delivered three workshops to pupils in year 10 and 11. Workshop 1 - covered what an apprenticeship is, the different levels, what’s currently available and where to look. The session also allowed pupils to look at the governments find an apprenticeship website and see what jobs are available currently. Workshop 2 – focused on applications and interviews. Workshop 3 - focused on the skills employers are looking for and how they set assessments to find what soft skills you have. The mock assessment workshop was interactive and set students group exercises to see how they demonstrate these skills. Pupils engaged really well in these workshops and awareness of apprenticeships and how to gain one was increased for all who attended. |
Alumni Visit Daniel Adams a former Lindsworth pupil who is now a lecturer in Criminology at the University of Arden came in to school on 10th and 17th June. He delivered sessions to support pupils with their future career path and options after school. For the first session he delivered 2 assemblies to pupils in years 7 to 10 focusing on life after Lindsworth. For the second session he ran a workshop for pupils with aspirations of attending university and a workshop for pupils who are not engaging fully in their education at the school. |
South and City College Construction and Technology Experience A group of year 10 pupils recently attended the South and City College Construction and Technology Event at the college’s Bordsley Green campus. They had the opportunity to:-
Career pathways covered included brickwork, carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, automotive and engineering. The pupils engaged wholeheartedly, absorbing valuable insights, and demonstrated real enthusiasm. |

NHS Choices College Work Experience As part of our work with the NHS one of our year 11 pupils secured a six week work experience placement at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. David Bowcott and Rowan Howell completed their placements on one of the wards within the hospital and were a credit to the school during their time there. |
Careers Curriculum The Lindsworth careers curriculum has been updated for the 2025/2026 academic year. Units have been amended to provide pupils with greater support on their journey to gain an appropriate post 16 placement. As part of the careers curriculum pupils will complete college applications and produce a CV. They will also receive careers guidance interviews and a follow up interview to assess their progress. |
Lindsworth Careers Fair On Thursday 13th February pupils in year 9, 10 and 11 took part in a careers fair at school. They met with representatives from a number of post 16 providers to discuss their options for their future. Pupils discussed careers they were interested in and were given guidance about the pathways they could take towards them.
