Lindsworth Lions took a short drive out to Rowley to participate in the annual “Engage in their Future” football tournament on Wednesday 29th September 2021 hosted at Goals in Rowley Regis. There were 8 teams involved in this regional qualifier; some schools travelled from as far as Bristol and beyond to make up the group, the winners are due to play the final at St Georges Park. This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to be involved in and a real incentive to play their best to try and overcome their opposition. The Lions first game was against Brades Lodge who were the team responsible for the event. We fielded a Lions team minus a few key players due to absences and pupils going to college. However, the team we took were not just there to make up the numbers as the pupils were all extremely keen and very capable.

Coree E was given his first opportunity to captain the squad and he rose to the occasion by displaying heart and determination with a good mix of sportsmanship and respect; for all staff and pupils throughout the day. He stayed consistent in his performances, playing every match, and he clearly led by example. Khalisha W also participated in most of the games and built on the confidence she gained in the previous fixture. She did not disappoint with some exceptional defensive performances against some very experienced and talented male dominant opposition. Many of the schools commended her on her ability to play without fear and demonstrate skill and accuracy in a tournament with very few female representatives.

Game 1 vs Brades: 2 :1 Loss – Scorer:  Coree

Game 2 vs North star: 3 : 2 Win – Scorers: Blake, Kymaree, Jahmiyah

Game 3 vs Ace Tiverton: 2:0 Win – Scorers: Kymaree and Tyler

Game 4 vs Greenfields: 2:0 Loss – No scorers.

Game 5 vs Castlewood A: 4:2 Loss – Scorers: Kymaree and Blake

Game 6 vs Castlewood B: 2:0 Win – Scorers: Reashay and Blake

Game 7 vs Peak Academy: Awarded a 3:0 Win due to them retiring

Game 8 could not be played due to drop out teams.

A fantastic result for the squad and every single player did their bit to try and secure victory as often as possible. Unfortunately, they came up against some extremely tough competition. Their behaviour and attitude towards each other, centre and other school staff and all their opponents was exactly what we expect from Lions. We are very proud of their efforts and shout outs to Kymaree, Reashay, Blake, Jahmiyah, Coree, an even defender Tyler for their goals throughout the day and to Tyreese for being our youngest representative (year 8).

Squad for the day: Coree  (captain), Reashay  (GK), Jamie , Tyreese , Kymaree , Brandon, Khalisha, Tyler, Blake, Jahmiyah.
